I'm not, it's my favourite this year, I just feel the awesome idea of powder mages could have been more exciting if they weren't instantly countered by classic fantasy balancers. I loved the book and the crimson campaign should be winging it's way to me as we speak, but I think my love of napoleonic history/age of sail makes me wish the other magic wasn't in the book, and the powder mages were the whole of it.Įdited because it sounded a bit like I was bashing the book. Wards protecting priviledged? magic bullets. Priviledged set up as so powerful no army could stand against them? Wards. I thought the other magic jarred with this by being too classicly fantasy, using the kryptonite technique of certain types of character being the way to beat another. I loved the idea of the powder mages, a really cool way to give the age of muskets a fantasy twist, but keeping it pretty grounded, as well as letting the main characters do cool tricks. I was also feeling meh while reading The Blade Itself but it turned out to be one of my favorite.I agree about the magic. I'm still willing to keep reading If it gets good and I need to be patient. But I would've still enjoy the book If I liked the characters. I see I was mislead to think that Powder Mage was a grimdark series. see if they fit - company salaries, reviews, and more posted by Reddit employees No assembly required popular spanish funeral.
Should I keep reading the series? Does it pick up towards the end? Am I being unfairly harsh because I'm reading this series right after The Last Argument of Kings and I subconsciously expect it to follow The First Law?Įdit: Okay. I was really excited to read the series when I found out the plot of the series revolve around a revolution and the writer was a student of Sanderson but I'm kinda disapointed now. In this one, so far, things have been layered on to the drama/mystery very nicely, creating a very dark cool & creepy atmosphere. The worldbuilding is okay I guess but thats about it. Brian McClellan's book is a book in which a typical fantasy world is updating, progressing. In my Goli Gummies review, I will dig deep to get the skinny on these gummies, their tasty promise, and the Goli. It's flintlock fantasy, so the technology is different, but that's only part of it. Enter the Goli Apple Cider Vinegar gummy. I kinda like the idea of the powder mages but I think it would've been executed better. Promise of Blood (book one of the Powder Mage trilogy) is fantasy, but not standard fantasy - not fantasy of the expected pattern. It didn't felt like a grimdark book to me. There are too many action scenes and not enough character work. Most of the characters feel hot headed and immature. So I've been reading Promise of Blood (160 pages in) and I'm not feeling it. Then I started searching more grimdark series that also translated to Turkish and I came across to The Powder Mage triology. To use the TAP, you press it against your body and push the big green button on. The Last Argument of Kings might be one of the best fantasy books I've read. The Baze blood test is based on a new device called TAP, which aims to take the pain and mess out of blood draws. I just finished newly translated (finally!) Turkish version of The First Law triology and I loved it. I'm an average Grimdark Fantasy enjoyer from Turkey.
